Oak not only looks great, but is also a fantastic material in terms of hardyness and security.

Some lesser know oak facts:

• Oak doors and floors are made from oak which is approximately 100 years old

• Sabrina Doors promotes 'sustainable' oak harvesting

• Oak lasts for many years, and oak in the home usually outlasts 3 generations of residents!

How an oak door helps your home

• An oak door is an inherently stable fire door, being much more stable than most manufactured fire doors

• Oak doors are VERY robust, and provide a good stronghold

• Oak's insulation properties are outstanding

• External oak doors weather well, and will not warp or split if cared for when exposed to the elements

Oak doors and fire door regulations

Sabrina do not manufacture certificated fire doors, but there are a number of manufacturing detail changes that can be made to bring the doors up to an acceptable fire rating of 30 minute protection.

These changes need to be approved with the local fire officer and your local building control officer.

It is suggested that you offer the changes one at a time to the approving bodies, a case of not putting all your eggs in one basket.

Changes as follows:

• Intumescent strip to the frame. Frame section 100 x 66mm.
• Intumescent strip tongue 20 x 8mm between boards.
• Increase board and ledge dimensions from 22mm thickness to 32mm thickness.
• Paint the door and frame with Intumescent Varnish.

We have had all the above procedures approved by local authority officers and local fire officers.

We have found it not possible to uprate a boarded door to 1 hour protection.
